CANADIAN BOARD OF EXAMINERS FOR PROFESSIONAL SURVEYORS (CBEPS)

There are many paths that can be followed in becoming qualified as a licensed Manitoba Land Surveyor. All candidates must first have their academic credentials evaluated by the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors (CBEPS) to receive a Certificate of Completion of Academic Requirements (C of C). The candidate may be required to take courses and write exams to prove proficiency in areas that the CBEPS feels are deficient before receiving the Certificate of Completion.Graduates with a university degree in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary or the University of New Brunswick who have taken the prescribed courses will be granted a C of C without any further course work. Graduates from technical institutes who offer Geomatics/Surveying Engineering Technology diploma programs, such as Red River College, British Columbia Institute of Technology or College of the North Atlantic, may receive exemptions in some subjects.Upon receipt of the C of C, a candidate may then register with the Board of Examiners of the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors as a Land Surveyor in Training, and undertake an internship with a licensed Manitoba Land Surveyor. During the internship period, the candidate must receive work experience and training in Manitoba, successfully complete projects and reports, and pass a series of written and oral examinations. The term of the internship will be based upon the candidate’s demonstrated experience and competencies.

STEPS FOR STUDENTS OF A GEOMATICS PROGRAMS:

  1. Obtain your Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors (CPEBS) — Certificate of Completion (C of C).
  2. Apply to become a land surveyor in training of the AMLS.
  3. AMLS Internship and Professional Exams

1. OBTAIN YOUR CANADIAN BOARD OF EXAMINERS FOR PROFESSIONAL SURVEYORS (CPEBS) — CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION (C OF C)

As a technical school graduate, you may have earned some credit toward your CPEBS certificate of completion. Contact CPEBS (add link) directly to find out which examinations may be exempted and which examinations must be passed.

2. APPLY TO BECOME A LAND SURVEYOR IN TRAINING OF THE AMLS

All persons applying for admission as a land surveyor in training shall submit a written application to the board accompanied by: a summary of all academic education and training, together with an official transcript of marks in respect of any post-secondary school education;

  1. a certified copy of a diploma or degree in geomatics technology, geomatics engineering or equivalent;
  2. a resume of the applicant’s relevant training and experience;
  3. a Certificate of Completion from the CPEBS;
  4. the annual fee for a land surveyor in training and any other fees associated with the application.

3. AMLS INTERNSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL EXAMS

You must submit a learning plan, accomplish milestone goals and complete a term of internship as outlined in the rules and regulations of the board of examiners (M4.1.1) (AMLS).

Land surveyors in training must complete projects and pass the professional examinations as set out by the AMLS board of examiners in the Course Outlines of the Milestone Examinations and the Milestone Projects and Reports.

Exam fee: $100.00 + gst per exam (payable 1 month prior to examination date)
